Transcultural Nursing Process : Assessment, Nursing Diagnoses, Planning and Evaluation


The conceptual model developed by Leininger in explaining nursing care in a cultural context described in terms of sunrise (Sunrise Model)

Assessment

Assessment is designed based on 7 components in the "Sunrise Model" namely:
  1. Religious and philosophical factors.
  2. Kinship and social factors.
  3. Cultural values and life ways.
  4. Political and legal factors.
  5. Economical factors.
  6. Educational factors.
  7. Technological factors.


Nursing Diagnoses

There are three nursing diagnosis is often enforced in transcultural nursing care, namely:
  1. Impaired verbal communication related to cultural differences,
  2. Impaired social interaction related to socio-cultural disorientation, and
  3. Ineffective management of therapeutic regimen related to the value system believed.


Nursing Planning

Cultural care preservation / maintenance
  • Identification of the difference between the client and the nurse concept of childbirth and infant care.
  • Be calm and do not rush when interacting with clients.
  • Discussing the cultural gap owned clients and nurses.
Cultural care accomodation / negotiation
Use language that is easily understood by the client.
Involve the family in planning treatment.
If the conflict is not resolved, do the negotiations in which the agreement is based on biomedical knowledge, client views and standards of conduct.
Cultural care repartening / reconstruction
  • Give a chance to the client to understand the information provided and execute it.
  • Determine the difference in the patient's level of cultural groups see themselves.
  • Use third parties where necessary.
  • Translate terminology into a language the patient's symptoms of health that can be understood by the client and family.
  • Provide information to clients about the health care system.

Evaluation

Transcultural nursing care evaluation conducted on the success clients about maintaining a culture conducive to health, reducing the client's culture that is not conducive to health or adapting to a new culture that may be at odds with the culture of the client. Through evaluation of nursing care can be determined in accordance with the client's cultural background.
